Researchers funded by the European Research Council gathered at the Pompeu Fabra University on June 11-13 to showcase an emerging area of study: the science of music. The conference featured 20 projects that focus on music and its impact on technology and society.
“Music relates to many scientific areas,” says Cédric Févotte, an ERC grantee from the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). Févotte is set to find new ways of analysing data in audio signals and music remastering.
Pierre Alexandre Tremblay of the University of Hudderfield is working with programmers on turning computers into musical instruments. And Anne-Madeleine Goulet of CNRS is studying music and dance in Parisian and Roman aristocratic circles in the 17th century.
