Rob Kitchin is a professor at the National University of Ireland Maynooth. Kitchin is principal investigator on the European Research Council advanced grant “The Programmable City” project, the Dublin Dashboard, the All-Island Research Observatory, and the Digital Repository of Ireland.
His research looks at how software is changing the infrastructure, management and governance of urban societies.
He is editor of the international journal, ‘Dialogues in Human Geography’, and has been an editor of ‘Progress in Human Geography and Social and Cultural Geography’, as well as the editor-in-chief of the 12-volume, ‘International Encyclopedia of Human Geography’.
Kitchin was previously director of the National Institute of Regional and Spatial Analysis at Maynooth University between 2002 and 2013. Kitchin has published widely across the social sciences, including 23 books and over 160 articles and book chapters. He obtained his PhD from the University of Wales.
