ERC=Science² at Science in the City Festival (ESOF, Toulouse) - Turkish Delight: East meets West in music
Between 10 and 12 July, ERC=Science² will have a pop-up science stand at Place du Capitole in Toulouse, where you will have a chance to delight your ears with a series of mini-concerts that trace a path from Ottoman to transcultural contemporary music, from composer Michael Ellison’s research project, funded by the European Research Council.
Globalisation can cause cultures to collide. Can music bridge the gap? With musicians Nermin Kaygusuz (kemençe) and Gökhan Bağcı (cello), composer Michael Ellison presents a series of short concerts based on his research project, Beyond East and West: Developing and Documenting an Evolving Transcultural Musical Practice, funded by the European Research Council. Through traditional makam music, improvisation, and contemporary music influenced by makam, the musicians bring harmony to different musical styles and cultures.
